To download and configure the SMU Safe app on your Android smartphone or tablet, please follow the steps below.
Installing and initializing the SMU Safe app for the first time, or on a new device:
- Open the Play Store.

- Tap on Search at the bottom.

- Tap on the empty search field at the top.

- Type in smu safe and tap on 'smu safe app' when it pops up as a suggestion.

- Tap on the SMU Safe app from the list.

- Tap Install and wait for it to be installed.

- After the installation is complete, tap on the Open button, or go to your All Apps section of your smartphone, and tap on the app to open it.

- After the app opens for the first time, it will ask you to enable its notifications on your device. Tap on Allow.

- Depending on your device model or Android version, the app might ask you to disable Hibernation for it on your device.

What is Hibernation in this context?
Some Android versions have a feature that disables notifications for an app if it is not used for a long period of time. If that feature is turned on for the SMU Safe app, you might miss out on important notifications if the app has not been opened for a while.
Please follow the steps below to disable this feature so you don't miss out on any important notifications:
- Tap on Go to Settings if that is available as one of the options.

- Once it opens up the App info page, toggle and disable the 'Remove permissions if app is unused' feature.

- Now the SMU Safe app is fully set up, and notifications are properly configured.
If the SMU Safe app is already installed on your Android device and you want to make sure the Hibernation feature is turned off and the notification settings are properly configured, please follow the steps below:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps.

- Find the SMU Safe app from the list, and tap on it.

- Toggle and disable the 'Remove permissions if app is unused' feature.

- Go back to Settings.
- Go to Notifications.

- Go to App notifications.

- Find the SMU Safe app on the list, and make sure it is toggled on or enabled.

- Tap on the SMU Safe app to enter additional notification settings.
- Make sure all the settings are configured as shown in the screenshot below.

- Now close Settings and open the SMU Safe app.
- Go to About / Preferences.

- Tap on Notification Settings.

- Make sure it says Enabled besides Notifications.

We strongly recommend allowing SMU Safe app notifications to come through when any Do Not Disturb modes are enabled on your device as well. Please follow the instructions below to set that up:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Modes and Routines.

- Tap on Sleep (or any other custom profile that you use on a daily basis).

- Press on the 'None allowed' section.

- Go to Apps.

- Tap on Add apps.

- Check the SMU Safe app from the list, then press Done.

- We recommend following the steps mentioned above for each and every custom 'Do Not Disturb' profile that you use on your device.

If you have a different device running a different version of Android, please look for similar settings.
