This knowledge base article is to assist you with logging into your SMU-provided portal.office.com account and ensure you are logged in with your SMU credentials. The steps below are broken into two sections to allow you to start at the step which is unfamiliar to you. Section A is how to log into portal.office.com with your SMU account. Section B is to help you confirm you’re logged into your SMU account in portal.office.com.
Enter https://portal.office.com in a browser. Microsoft Edge is used in this KB article.
The browser will quickly redirect to a page as shown in Figure A.1 or directly log you in.
Enter your SMU email address and click the Next button. See Figure A.1 above.
Enter your password in the “Password” box on the SSO screen and click Sign in.

Click Yes on the Stay Signed on page.
Click on your profile icon in the upper right (e.g., maroon dot in Figure B.1)
Your SMU email address should appear in the drop-down box where the green arrow is pointing to in Figure B.1. Skip to step C if the address is correct.
If it’s a non-SMU email address, such as a Hotmail address:
Click Sign Out.
Click on the non-SMU email address on the “Pick an account” page.
The browser will be redirected to the Microsoft login page. Click the circle icon in the upper right.
The browser will be redirected to the “Pick an account” page. Select your smu.ca account if it is an option; otherwise, select Use another account to enter your SMU email address. At this point, you will be back at step A.3.
