Changing Password When Working Remotely

There are 2 processes for changing passwords when working off campus on a university computer.

**Only authorized people are currently allowed to log into the VPN.

Scenario 1 - Password has not expired

  1. Connect to VPN. (See Connecting to VPN instructions) **
  2. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Change Password
  3. Make a new password that is different from the last 6 passwords that you've had.
  4. Never reuse the same password

Scenario 2 -  Password has expired

  1. Go to https://fed.smu.ca/adfs/portal/updatepassword and make a new password
  2. Reconnect to VPN (See Connecting to VPN instructions)**
  3. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and lock your pc
  4. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and unlock using the new password
  5. Never reuse the same password

**If you do not connect to VPN, your password for the computer will remain the same as it was before you brought the pc home.  You will then have 2 different passwords, one for logging into the computer and one for your s# for everything else (portal.office.com, SMUport, etc).  You will then get a popup in Outlook where you will need to put in the new password and check the box to remember password.
