How To: Setup Library Wireless Printing for Windows

  1. Click the Start Menu Icon and search for “Devices and Printers” in the search bar and hit ENTER or click [Devices and Printers] on the right of your start menu window.

  1. Click on [Add a device] in the Devices and Printers window.

  1. Click on “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer” in the Add Printer window. 
  1. Click “The printer I want isn’t listed”.

  1. Select “Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname. Then click [Next].

  1. Select [TCP/IP Device] as the Device type. Type lab-printers.smunet.smu.ca as the Hostname or IP address. It should populate to Port name also. Click [Next].
  2. Wait while the wizard detects the TCP/IP port.
  3. Select “Custom”, then click [Settings…] button. 
  4. Select “LPR” and type in library-web for the Queue name under LPR Settings. Then click [OK]. And on the previous “Add Printer” window, click [Next.]
  5. Click “Ricoh” under Manufacturer, then select “Ricoh Aficio SP 8200DN PCL.”


    [Note: For Windows 10 users, you need to select Windows Update and wait several minutes to obtain the proper update for this printer. On Windows 10 systems, it does not come with all the Ricoh drivers, therefore, it needs to do a Windows Update which can take up to 10-15min. Once downloaded, select the Ricoh Aficio SP 8200DN PCL driver, then click Next through the menus until you reach Finish.]
     
  6. Select [Next] on the “Type a printer name” page.

 

  1.  Installing printer should show on the next page and automatically forward to the “Printer Sharing” page. Select “Do not share this printer,” then click [Next]. Then select [Finish] on the Successful install page.
  2. This last step should be done only before you print each time. Open Internet Explorer or browser of your choice. Type in lab-printers.smunet.smu.ca and hit ENTER. Type in your S number (sXXXXXXX) and password and select [Log In].

     
  3. After logging in, you will see your requested print documents waiting. Check the checkmark box beside the documents you wish to print and click the [Print] button. Your documents will print to one of the two public printers in the Reference area of the library on the main floor.
