Trend Micro Upgrade

WHAT ARE WE DOING:

Beginning March 1, 2021, EIT will be upgrading the Trend Micro Endpoint protection software on all SMU laptops / Desktops.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO:

Your SMU desktop / laptop device will need to be connected to the SMU network for the upgrade to begin.

  • If you are currently working remotely

please ensure you establish a VPN connection during working hours until the upgrade has completed : The guide on how to

establish a VPN can be found at the following link: https://ppm.smu.ca/TDClient/34/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=425

  • If your device is on campus (hard wired or Wi-Fi)

you do not need to do anything, the upgrade will happen automatically,

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Once the upgrade has been initiated you will see the following messages on your PC.

1. Client begins update

 

  1. The Trend icon in the system tray will disappear during update.

 

3.  Windows Defender will prompt that virus protection is off while the update is installing. This is ‘normal’ and won’t be an issue once the upgrade completes and the computer is restarted.

 

4.  Once the Trend agent update completes you will be prompted by the Trend agent to restart the PC to finalize the update process.

 

  1. At this point you can disconnect from the VPN
  2. Please restart your computer for the upgrade to be completed

*EIT recommends restarting your computer at least once weekly for optimal operation.

  1. After your computer is restarted you should see the Trend Micro icon has return to the system tray. THANK YOU
