IMAP Settings for Generic SMU Emails (O365 Migration)

ITSS recommends using default Outlook settings (Microsoft Exchange) when configuring SMU email. However, in some cases (e.g. shared generic accounts) accounts may have been set up using IMAP protocol. After migration to Office 365, such accounts will not be able to receive new server settings automatically, and will need to be modified manually.
Please follow the steps below to modify your IMAP account:

  • In Outlook, Click on File and then Account Settings twice:
  • First, click on your IMAP account, and then click on the Change button:
  • In the Change Account window modify server settings as shown below, verify that Secure Password Authentication is checked, and then click on More Settings.
  • In Internet E-mail Settings window, go to Outgoing Server and Advanced tabs, and verify that all settings are shown below:
  • Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings window and apply settings
  • Click on Next, wait for the settings to be verified, and then click on Finish
  • Click on Close, and your account should now be ready for use
